Gail Kim wasn’t going to sit back while Dustin Rhodes continued getting hammered over his controversial Twitter activity. After Rhodes apologized and suggested he might quit the platform entirely, Kim jumped in to defend him—and eventually found herself being labeled MAGA too.
Kim responded directly to Rhodes after he indicated he’d had enough of Twitter following the backlash. She thought Dustin had already done what he needed to do.
“This app is brutal Dustin. Even when you apologize, it’s not good enough. You’ll never be able to please everyone. Take a break and the following week they’ll say they’ll be missing you tweeting.”
That didn’t go unanswered. One fan questioned whether Rhodes had actually addressed what was in the original post and called the entire situation a bad look.
“Did he mention it was a violent and racist photo? And that he also commented. Not a good look AT ALL.”
Kim immediately pushed back. She argued that Rhodes had already apologized to the person who brought the issue to his attention and that the apology had been accepted. From her perspective, continuing to demand more from him wasn’t accomplishing anything.
“Dustin apologized to the person who brought it to his attention and that person accepted it. What would you like from him now? Give him a chance for goodness sake. If it wasn’t a good look, he addressed that didn’t he?”
The fan still wasn’t buying Rhodes’ explanation. They pointed out that Dustin had also been following the account behind the original post and said that made them question whether his claim that he simply hadn’t read the caption was even “half true.” Then they brought MAGA into it.
“He was also following that account on top of all this as well. Sooo I’m not so sure the ‘apology’ was even half true. Sorry. If you’re gonna be MAGA – that’s fine. But make it clearer so we don’t have to be shocked when this happens.”
That’s where Kim had enough. She rejected the idea that defending Rhodes somehow made her MAGA and accused the fan of labeling her simply because she wasn’t saying exactly what they wanted to hear.
“Love the labeling when I don’t say exactly what you want me or him to say. Let’s just call me MAGA when I’m not. Have a great day getting outraged on this app.”
The entire exchange came after Rhodes apologized for responding “❤️🤘🏼” to a post containing anti-Islam messaging and imagery criticized as anti-trans. Rhodes said he hadn’t read the caption at all and had only reacted because he liked the firearm shown in the picture.
But the fallout didn’t stop with Dustin’s apology. One defense from Gail Kim was enough to pull her directly into the argument, and by the end of it, she wasn’t just defending Rhodes anymore—she was having to tell people that she isn’t MAGA herself.
