Gable Steveson has stepped inside wrestling rings, boxing rings and MMA cages, so when he was asked to settle a wild WWE-UFC crossover debate, he did not waste a second thinking about it.
The Olympic gold medalist was asked who would have the better shot outside their usual world: Rhea Ripley fighting in MMA or Conor McGregor stepping inside a WWE ring. Steveson’s answer was immediate, “Rhea Ripley in MMA.”
That is a huge vote of confidence considering McGregor has spent years teasing a move into WWE and already has the personality, mouth and star power to fit right into professional wrestling.
Steveson, however, believes Ripley has the physical tools to handle herself inside a cage. He has met the WWE star before, and the first thing that stood out to him was her strength. Nina Drama agreed that Ripley is seriously powerful, and Steveson took it even further by saying she already looks built for a real fight.
“Yeah, she put together. She ready to fight.”
Steveson also made it clear that his pick was not a shot at McGregor. He simply has a lot of respect for Ripley and what she brings physically.
“I like Rhea. Rhea’s really cool.”
Steveson knows more than most about crossing from legitimate competition into WWE. He became one of the biggest names in amateur wrestling before signing with WWE, appearing at WrestleMania 38 and eventually competing against Baron Corbin in NXT. After his WWE exit, he moved into fighting and continued testing himself in other forms of combat sports.
McGregor would probably have no trouble cutting a WWE promo or starting a fight with half the locker room, but Steveson believes Ripley would have the easier transition once the cage door closes.
