FTR and the Motor City Machine Guns are about to find out who really belongs at the top of AEW’s tag team division, because the two teams just agreed to a Best-of-Five Series starting at WrestleDream.

The challenge came together during the October 14, 2026 episode of AEW Dynamite/Collision after Tony Schiavone brought out FTR and Stokely Hathaway. Dax Harwood quickly made it clear that championships are still his priority and called for The Young Bucks, wanting another shot at becoming the number one contenders for the AEW World Tag Team Championship.

Instead, the Motor City Machine Guns came out and shifted the entire conversation. Chris Sabin acknowledged FTR’s history and reputation, but argued that what matters now is the present. Sabin said AEW has the best tag team division in wrestling and made it clear that he and Alex Shelley want to prove they are the best team in it by beating FTR.

Shelley then used FTR’s own history against them. He pointed out that FTR has beaten The Young Bucks three out of five times and questioned what it would mean if the Motor City Machine Guns could do the same thing to FTR.

That led Shelley to propose a full Best-of-Five Series between the two teams. The idea nearly started immediately, but Stokely stepped in and shut down the possibility of kicking things off on Dynamite/Collision. Instead, he agreed that the series should begin on a bigger stage and declared WrestleDream as the starting point.

With match one now set for WrestleDream, the bigger question is whether this series ends up settling the debate over which team deserves to be called the best in AEW.

Who do you think wins the Best-of-Five Series between FTR and the Motor City Machine Guns? Let us know your prediction in the comments.
