Joseph Sawyer is officially sitting on top of GCW after taking down Atticus Cogar to win the GCW World Championship in the main event of GCW Homecoming Night One.
The match was anything but clean. Max Recon was revealed as the VNDL associate during the chaos, while Drake Wuertz, also known as Drake Younger, got involved and helped Sawyer turn the match in his favor.
Sawyer eventually put Cogar away with Sister Abigail to score the three-count and walk out with the GCW World Title. This marks Sawyer’s first reign as GCW World Champion. Fans also know him from his WWE run as Joe Gacy before he returned to the independent wrestling scene.
Cogar’s run ends after 267 days as champion, during which he racked up 25 successful title defenses before Sawyer finally brought the reign to an end. Sawyer now has the biggest prize in GCW around his waist, and after the way he won it, there should be no shortage of people looking to come after him.
