A former WWE star is stepping in after CM Punk became the target of steroid accusations, and he’s not holding back.

The situation started when a fan on Twitter claimed Punk was using “gear” after photos showed him in some of the best shape of his career. That claim quickly picked up attention, and it didn’t take long for former WWE talent Cezar Bononi to respond publicly on Instagram.

Bononi began by directly addressing the accusation itself, making it clear he believes the claim is completely baseless and part of a bigger pattern where any physical improvement gets questioned.

“CM Punk is on steroids—this is what this random user is talking about right here. Just the most absurd thing, that when somebody has any changes in their physique, the first thing that’s pointed out is steroids. First thing—kudos to Punk, kudos to Jay Ferruggia, one of the best coaches around.”

He then shifted the focus to Punk’s physique specifically, explaining why he sees nothing unnatural about it and made it clear that results like that can be achieved without performance enhancers.

“This physique right here is very, very achievable naturally. There’s zero indication of any steroids used right here, but people will say whatever they say just to get their point in and catch attention.”

From there, Bononi called out the lack of evidence behind these kinds of accusations, questioning how anyone could make such claims without access to real medical information.

“Look at this—I even brought it up—it’s absolutely insane that this needs some gear or anything like that. ‘This guy is even saying he doesn’t need it, but he did it anyway.’ Did you have access to his bloodwork? How can you say something like this?”

Finally, Bononi zoomed out to address the broader issue, arguing that people often try to tear down achievements they can’t relate to or replicate.

“It’s completely absurd. When somebody achieves something most people don’t, the first thing we do is diminish it. Even if he was taking something, he still had to put the work in. Guys, first thing—you don’t have to take steroids. I’m not against it, I’m not up to it either. But if you cannot achieve something, you better believe that some other people can. Just don’t point at whatever you believe they are doing to bring others down so you can feel a little bit better.”

So, this wasn’t a mild defense. Bononi went all in, shutting down the accusations and flipping the conversation back onto the people making them. Whether fans buy it or not, he’s making it clear he sees Punk’s transformation as hard work, not something else.

Do you think accusations like this are fair when a wrestler’s physique changes, or do they cross the line without real proof? Let us know in the comments.
