The wrestling world has lost another veteran, as Jeff Miller, better known to fans as “Metal Maniac,” has passed away.
The Cauliflower Alley Club announced Miller’s passing and paid tribute to a wrestler who spent decades working across ECW, the NWA scene and the independent circuit. No cause of death was disclosed in the announcement.
“On behalf of the CAC, we extend our sincere condolences on the passing of professional wrestling veteran ‘Metal Maniac’ Jeff Miller. Jeff was part of the fabric of our wrestling community and will be remembered with respect by those who knew and shared the ring with him. R.I.P.”
Miller got his start in professional wrestling in the early 1990s after training under names including WWE Hall of Famer Jimmy Snuka and Sivi Afi. He made his way into Eastern Championship Wrestling in 1992, before the promotion became the ECW that would later explode onto the national wrestling scene. Miller worked there into 1993, with one of his final appearances for the company coming against The Sandman at NWA Bloodfest.
Once his ECW run ended, Miller became a fixture on the independent scene, working throughout New Jersey, Maryland, New England and Canada. He also spent several years with the Mid-Eastern Wrestling Federation in Baltimore and worked for NWA New Jersey, where he even wrestled under the Doink the Clown gimmick during the late 1990s.
One of the biggest threads running through Miller’s career was his connection to Snuka. Miller not only trained under the WWE Hall of Famer, but also feuded with him extensively during his years on the independents. He was part of an era when wrestlers could build long careers traveling from territory to territory and promotion to promotion without ever needing a major national television contract to become well known within the business.
Miller also collected championship gold along the way. His career included reigns as the CWA Television Champion, ECPW Heavyweight Champion, ECPW Television Champion and WXW Heavyweight Champion. He was also associated with East Coast Pro Wrestling and became a familiar name throughout the Northeastern independent wrestling scene.
Outside the ring, Miller had deep ties to music as well. He grew up playing bass, and his family owned the House of Music recording studio in New Jersey, putting him around names from the music industry long before wrestling became his profession. That background helped make the “Metal Maniac” name feel like more than just another wrestling gimmick.
Miller’s career stretched across multiple decades, with records differing on the exact date of his final match. What isn’t in dispute is that he spent years grinding through ECW, NWA-affiliated promotions and the independent scene while sharing locker rooms and rings with generations of wrestlers.
Jeff Miller may never have been the guy headlining WrestleMania, but “Metal Maniac” was one of those wrestlers who helped keep the independent scene alive night after night, town after town. His passing marks the loss of another piece of that old-school wrestling world, and Ringside News sends its condolences to his family, friends and everyone who knew him.
