KJ Orso just popped up at WWE’s Minnesota tryout, and his name was nowhere to be found when the company’s latest group of hopefuls first came to light.
Fightful Select’s Sean Ross Sapp confirmed that Orso is in Minnesota and taking part in the tryout this week. There was no explanation for why his name was kept off the original list.
Wrestling fans know Orso best from his time in AEW as Fuego Del Sol, the masked underdog who became a regular fixture on company programming before eventually heading for the exit.
Since then, Orso has ditched the mask, changed his name and started carving out a new lane for himself on the independent scene. He has become a familiar face in GCW while putting as much distance as possible between himself and the Fuego character.
His relationship with AEW never completely fell apart either. Orso returned for multiple AEW and ROH tapings after leaving the company, although those appearances stopped before he launched the KJ Orso rebrand.
WWE has seen him before. Orso was fed to Erick Rowan in a quick squash match on the January 6, 2020 episode of RAW, long before most fans knew him as Fuego Del Sol. Six years later, he is back in front of WWE officials with more experience, a new look and no mask hiding his face. That does not guarantee a contract, but WWE did not bring him to Minnesota just to fill space.
Orso has already gone from WWE extra to AEW regular and independent standout. Now he has a shot to pull off another career reset.
