Finn Bálor isn’t hanging up the boots anytime soon, but he’s already thinking about what comes after wrestling. And while retirement is something he knows he’ll eventually have to face, he doesn’t see himself walking away from the business completely.
Speaking on Cheap Heat Live, Bálor admitted he’s reached the stage of his career where retirement naturally starts creeping into the conversation. Even though he says he feels better physically at 45 than he did at 35, he knows his in-ring career won’t last forever.
That led Peter Rosenberg to ask whether Bálor sees himself stepping into a producer role once he’s done wrestling or if he’d rather take a clean break from the business altogether. Bálor admitted it’s not an easy question to answer because wrestling has been such a huge part of his life for so long.
“It’s really hard to kind of think about how I’m gonna feel in the future and how I’m gonna feel with that monumental lifestyle switch. I’ve been wrestling longer than I’ve not wrestled in my life.”
He also didn’t hide the fact that retirement is something he expects to struggle with emotionally. Bálor even revealed it’s something he and his wife regularly talk about at home, joking that she already expects retirement to be an adjustment for him.
“So I’m sure there’s gonna be a certain amount of grief involved with leaving the ring. How I’m gonna be able to deal with that, I don’t know. I speak with my wife about this all the time. She thinks I’m just gonna go crazy because she kind of thinks I’m nuts already the way I go around the house in my off time.”
Even so, Bálor made it clear he has no interest in disappearing from wrestling once his in-ring days are over. A producer role is one possibility, but he also said he’s become increasingly interested in the presentation side of the business.
“I would like to stay in the business in some capacity, whether it’s a producer or kind of more behind the scenes in a visual presentation of the show aspect is kind of something that I’m very interested in.”
Bálor isn’t ready to put a date on retirement just yet, but one thing already seems certain—when the day finally comes to step out of the ring, he doesn’t plan on leaving wrestling behind.
“So it’s very hard to pinpoint how I’m gonna feel, but I definitely want to be involved in the business past my time in the ring.”
For now, Bálor is still focused on competing, but he’s already looking beyond his wrestling career. Whether it’s producing matches or helping shape WWE’s presentation behind the scenes, it sounds like he wants his next chapter to keep him just as close to the business that has defined most of his life.
