UFC Freedom 250 went down on the White House lawn without chaos, but the FBI says things could have gone very differently.
The event took place Sunday, June 14, with the UFC bringing a massive fight night straight to the front lawn of the White House. The show happened without incident, but officials now claim there was an alleged terror plot aimed at disrupting the event.
According to Fox News, officials said the plan allegedly involved multiple phases, including explosive-loaded drones, panic near the event area, and additional attackers targeting the White House gate.
The FBI learned about the alleged plot on June 10 and made arrests in Cincinnati before the event could happen. After searching a suspect’s iPhone, authorities reportedly found at least 23 users on Signal discussing parts of the alleged attack. FBI Director Kash Patel praised the quick response and said the alleged plan was shut down before it could turn into something much worse.
“Thanks to the rapid action of this FBI, our partners, and the Department of Justice in a multi-state operation, multiple individuals are now in custody and allegedly planned attacks were stopped cold.”
UFC Freedom 250 still went forward as planned, and fans watching the event had no idea how serious things allegedly got behind the scenes. Now the focus shifts to the investigation, the arrests, and what officials say was a major threat stopped before it reached the White House lawn.
