WWE is bringing another celebrity to RAW, and some fans are already begging them to stop. After a year filled with Pat McAfee, Jelly Roll and Travis Scott getting involved in WWE, Matt Mathews’ upcoming appearance was apparently one celebrity announcement too many.
WWE announced that the social media star and comedian will appear live on the September 7 edition of Monday Night RAW in Birmingham, Alabama. Fans immediately went to work.
“Another celebrity appearance that we will not give a s*** about. Like we f****** care about these damn celebrities…”
Another fan didn’t even know who WWE was promoting. They then took their response considerably further.
“I say this with zero respect… Who the actual f***** is this guy? He’s a comedian? So if he is drilled into the mat & breaks his neck -we can laugh? No? Please Blow Yourself – In That Very Ring! I’m sure VKM would be gaga over it if he still ran the place.”
Someone else sarcastically congratulated WWE for supposedly landing its next massive ratings draw.
“No f****** way! I’m so tuning in to see whoever the f*** he is standing in the crowed waving for 5 seconds. This post must be getting WWE millions of extra views on raw now. Great job social team!”
Another wasn’t interested in being quite so subtle: “Either one of TKO, Triple H, or the social media head are brain dead or they all are.” Matt Mathews hasn’t actually done anything yet, and WWE hasn’t announced what his role on the show will be. But judging by those reactions, this isn’t really about him.
Fans have watched WWE lean heavily into celebrity involvement over the past year. Pat McAfee hasn’t simply appeared on television. Jelly Roll actually stepped into the ring. Travis Scott became involved in major WWE storylines alongside some of the company’s biggest stars.
Now another celebrity is coming. That’s why what should’ve been a simple promotional announcement turned into fans unloading on WWE’s entire celebrity obsession. Mathews hasn’t even arrived on RAW yet, and he’s already catching the frustration left behind by everyone who came before him.
