Ex-WWE star Gable Steveson just got absolutely erased at UFC 331, and Sean Sharaf needed only 12 seconds to do it. Steveson’s undefeated MMA run came crashing down after one vicious left hook shut the whole thing down almost as soon as it started.
There was no wrestling showcase, no drawn-out heavyweight slugfest and no chance for Steveson to settle into the fight. Sharaf came forward, uncorked the left hand and caught Steveson clean, bringing the fight to a stunning end just 12 seconds into the opening round.
The loss is a massive turn for Steveson, who entered UFC 331 with plenty of momentum behind him. The Olympic gold medalist had started his MMA career 4-0 and crushed Elisha Ellison with a first-round knockout in his UFC debut, making it look like his move into the heavyweight division could get very ugly for anyone standing across from him. Sharaf had other plans. One left hook and 12 seconds later, Steveson was staring at the first loss of his MMA career while Sharaf walked away with the biggest win of his UFC run.
The result is even more brutal considering how quickly Steveson had been building himself back up after leaving professional wrestling behind. The former WWE prospect eventually signed with UFC after turning his attention completely toward fighting, and his early MMA results had given him serious momentum heading into UFC 331.
Instead, all of that momentum disappeared in 12 seconds. Steveson didn’t get dragged into deep water or slowly broken down — Sharaf landed one left hook and ended his undefeated run before the fight could even get going.
Steveson’s UFC story suddenly looks a whole lot different after UFC 331. He entered the night as an unbeaten heavyweight with Olympic credentials and walked out after suffering a devastating knockout loss in just 12 seconds.
