Elijah Holyfield just got a serious change of scenery, because WWE is sending him to AAA.
The move was revealed at the end of the August 9 episode of WWE LFG after Holyfield teamed with Apollo Crews earlier in the show. Once the match was over, Holyfield met with Shawn Michaels in his office, and HBK told him he was being sent down to work with The Undertaker for AAA. That means Holyfield’s next chapter won’t be centered around NXT. Instead, WWE is putting him into its AAA system and giving him a completely different environment to develop in.
Holyfield is still extremely somewhat new to pro wrestling. He only started his in-ring career in December 2024 after coming from a football background, but WWE clearly sees enough in him to start moving him around instead of keeping him locked inside the Performance Center.
The 28-year-old has been training under names like Fit Finlay, Johnny Moss, Matt Bloom and Robbie Brookside, and now he’s getting another huge name involved in his development with The Undertaker. That’s the real story here. WWE could have just kept Holyfield grinding away in NXT, but instead they’re sending him to AAA and putting him into a different wrestling culture while he’s still barely into his second year in the business.
For Holyfield, this isn’t some random side trip. It looks like WWE is testing him in a bigger way and giving him a chance to grow outside the usual developmental bubble.
