Edge says that he has never taken for granted the fact that every single building was sold out at this time. There were even some Sundays when they’d work a sold out afternoon show, and then drive two or three hours down the road to work another sold out show. It was an incredible time to be a professional wrestler.
Looking back now, it’s obvious to see how short matches were during this period. It became frustrating to Edge and Christian that they were rarely given time to work lengthy matches on television, but that made the PPV matches even more important. Nowadays, Edge admits that maybe it’s gone too far the other way with storylines taking a back seat to the in-ring action.
Edge and Christian both agree that the WCW Invasion marked the end of the attitude era. WWE really dropped the ball with that angle and it drove a lot of fans away. Unfortunately, a lot of those same fans still haven’t returned to the product. Christian adds that once WWE lost their competition it took a lot of wind out of their sails, and people’s interest in the product started to waver.
A listener calls into the show and asks Edge and Christian to name two current singles stars in WWE who could make a great tag team. Edge points out that both Sami Zayn and Luke Harper are severely under-utilized talents on WWE’s roster right now. Harper is so talented that Edge thought he could have realistically challenged The Undertaker at WrestleMania.
