EC3 has seen enough of wrestling fans playing body police, and Nia Jax is the example that really set him off.
While talking about the way people online obsess over wrestlers’ appearances on Vince Russo’s podcast, EC3 said Jax showed off her weight-loss progress, looked like she was doing something positive for herself, and still got hammered in the replies. EC3 said he has no issue giving someone credit when they’re clearly trying to improve themselves. In fact, he said that should be the easy part.
“Anybody who makes self-improvement, I’m all for. But man, they’re just the biggest hypocrites I’ve ever seen.”
That’s when EC3 brought up Jax. He said she had posted a simple photo after losing a considerable amount of weight, and it wasn’t some staged gym picture or dramatic transformation post. To him, it just looked like someone showing progress. Then EC3 made the mistake of checking the comments.
“Nia Jax posted a picture where she’s lost a considerable amount of weight, and she just put a picture up. It wasn’t some gym selfie or some workout thing. It was just a nice picture where she’s like, ‘Hey, down whatever. Keep making progress.’ And I was like, ‘Wow, good for her.’”
“I’m like, ‘I shouldn’t do it, but I’m going to just look.’ And I looked at the replies and the shit people would say to her. I was sickened. It’s filthy.”
That was EC3’s bigger point. No matter what someone does, there’s always a section of wrestling social media ready to tear them apart. Lose weight, gain muscle, change your look, try to improve yourself — somebody is still waiting to tell you why it sucks.
For EC3, the Nia Jax situation was another perfect example of how ugly wrestling social media can get. She showed progress, he thought she deserved credit, and the first thing some people did was attack her anyway.
Do you think EC3 is right about wrestling fans being hypocritical when it comes to body transformations, or do public figures just have to expect that kind of treatment online? Let us know what you think in the comments.
