Drew McIntyre has made it pretty clear that he can’t stand CM Punk, but his latest comments take things a little further. The Scottish Warrior now says he won’t be happy until Punk is out of WWE for good, and he brought it up during an interview that had nothing to do with their rivalry.
While speaking with Ella Jay, McIntyre and Chase Mattson were discussing their experience working together on Agent of Shadows. Mattson was asked about his first impressions of Drew, Joe Hendry and Jacob Fatu, and said all three were welcoming on set. Drew immediately saw an opportunity to take a shot at Punk.
“That’s why we don’t send CM Punk to these things because he’s a piece of trash.”
The interviewer joked that Drew must have made his feelings about Punk clear to Mattson during filming. McIntyre responded by calling Punk a bad person and comparing the way he presents himself to wrestling fans to Charles Manson.
“Just a bad, bad human being. Just a—like, he can’t go to the acting world because in wrestling he’s himself, except, you know, when he pretends he’s a good guy. He’s very Charles Manson-like qualities where he gets the fans to believe the nonsense he spouts.”
Drew continued by saying Punk wouldn’t be able to make it in acting unless he played someone like himself. He then took another shot at Punk’s place in wrestling, making it clear that he doesn’t think his rival belongs in the business.
“But unless he’s just being his same horrible self, he can’t be in this world. So, he shouldn’t even be in the wrestling world. He’s genuinely, genuinely terrible person.”
McIntyre also knows how often he brings up Punk, but he doesn’t think that makes him obsessed. According to Drew, there’s a specific reason he keeps talking about his former rival, and it has everything to do with wanting him out of WWE.
“And I only talk about him all the time, not because obsession, because I just won’t be happy till he’s gone from WWE forever.”
Mattson then joked that he’d heard plenty about Punk while working with Drew on the movie. His response suggested that McIntyre had been just as outspoken about his rival off camera.
“A lot of words to say to me on set. It’s really, really funny.”
These comments come after McIntyre recently called Punk a “genuine piece of crap” during an appearance on Raw Talk. Drew claimed Punk had gotten better at hiding his personality backstage and accused him of acting friendly because he had burned bridges elsewhere. However, he also admitted that Punk is good at his job and that their personal issues have helped make their WWE rivalry work.
McIntyre has never had much trouble speaking his mind about Punk, but openly saying he wants him gone from WWE is a pretty strong statement. The two have already shown they can turn their issues into entertaining television, which makes Drew’s latest comments all the more interesting. He might want Punk out of the company, but he also knows exactly how valuable their rivalry can be when they’re standing across the ring from each other.
Do you think Drew McIntyre really wants CM Punk gone from WWE, or is he keeping their rivalry going for a reason? Let us know in the comments below.
