Drew McIntyre may be getting some serious opportunities in Hollywood, but anyone thinking that means his WWE career is winding down can forget about it.
During his appearance on Stephanie McMahon’s “What’s Your Story?” podcast, McIntyre opened up about balancing wrestling with his growing acting career. Drew has been away from WWE for months while working on outside projects, including “Highlander” and “Agent of Shadows,” but he made it clear that wrestling is still his main job.
McIntyre explained that he already has an understanding with WWE President Nick Khan and Paul “Triple H” Levesque when it comes to outside opportunities. If something worthwhile comes along, they will figure out how to make it work without Drew having to walk away from WWE.
“This is home. I’m not going anywhere. This is like we have an understanding of talking with Nick and Paul that if something good comes up, we do that. But I’m a full-time wrestler. I just turned 41.”
Drew then made his plans for the future even clearer. Despite being 41 and already finding success outside the wrestling business, he doesn’t see himself slowing down anytime soon.
“I’m going to be here for years. So don’t expect me to disappear anytime soon.”
That declaration comes at an interesting time for McIntyre. He admitted during the same interview that he has been away from wrestling for more than five months, which is longer than any previous absence in his career. Even when he tore his biceps after returning to WWE in 2017, Drew said he was only out for around three months.
His current break has been different because it hasn’t been driven entirely by injury. McIntyre revealed that he had already been discussing his WWE comeback after finishing “Highlander” when another acting opportunity suddenly came his way through Russell Crowe. Drew said WWE ultimately decided it made more sense to keep him off television until filming was completed instead of having him constantly fly back and forth between movie sets and WWE events.
That arrangement appears to be something McIntyre is comfortable with going forward. Hollywood may be giving him opportunities he never expected, but he clearly doesn’t view acting as an escape route from professional wrestling.
For Drew, that doesn’t seem to be the plan. His Hollywood career may continue to grow, but McIntyre sounds determined to have both worlds rather than choosing one over the other. If his latest comments are anything to go by, WWE fans should expect to see plenty more of the Scottish Warrior once he finally makes his way back.
What do you make of Drew McIntyre saying he plans to remain a full-time WWE wrestler for years? Do you think he can balance a growing Hollywood career with WWE long-term? Let us know your thoughts and feedback in the comments.
