Drew McIntyre isn’t rushing his WWE comeback, but he already knows what kind of reaction he expects when the time finally comes.
McIntyre has been away from WWE television for months while stacking up Hollywood projects, and now The Scottish Warrior has made it clear that wrestling is still home. He just isn’t ready to walk back through that door yet.
While speaking with Scott Johnson on Going Ringside, McIntyre was asked about WWE’s upcoming European tour and whether fans could expect to see him back anytime soon. That opened the door for Drew to explain exactly where his head is at. He stressed that WWE remains his home, but “Hollywood Drew” has his attention right now. McIntyre also pointed out that this is the longest break he has taken from wrestling since he started competing professionally as a teenager.
“Yeah, I’ll be back eventually. You know, WWE is my home, but at the same time, Hollywood Drew is busy right now and focused on Hollywood Drew. So, when I get back eventually, it’s going to be a big deal. I’ve never been out for 6 months since I was 15. I started wrestling professionally and I’ve never had 6 months off in this entire time. So when I come back, I think it’s going to be a big deal for the fans, but it’ll be a big deal for me, but it’s not right now.”
That last part is key. McIntyre isn’t teasing an immediate comeback. He flat-out said that his WWE return is “not right now,” even though he expects it to feel huge whenever it finally happens.
McIntyre’s absence stretches back to WrestleMania 42, where his match against Jacob Fatu marked his final WWE appearance before he shifted his attention toward several outside projects. Ringside News previously covered how McIntyre’s WWE absence was connected to his Hollywood schedule, including his work on the Highlander reboot.
There have been signs that McIntyre hasn’t completely disconnected from wrestling either. In September, McIntyre posted footage of himself training inside the ring after admitting that he missed wrestling. He was also spotted at WWE headquarters in Stamford in October for meetings and promotional work.
For now, Drew McIntyre seems perfectly content letting WWE move forward without him while he handles business in Hollywood. The difference is that after spending virtually his entire adult life wrestling without this kind of break, McIntyre believes his eventual return is going to hit a lot differently.
When Drew McIntyre finally returns to WWE, who do you think should be standing across the ring from him first? Let us know what you think in the comments.
