Drew McIntyre Says He Still Needs to Beat Roman Reigns

Drew McIntyre may be busy in Hollywood right now, but there is one massive piece of unfinished WWE business that he hasn’t forgotten about: Roman Reigns.

McIntyre has spent months away from WWE while working on acting projects, but when the conversation turned toward the people waiting for him whenever he eventually comes back, CM Punk and Roman Reigns immediately entered the picture.

While speaking with Scott Johnson on Going Ringside, McIntyre was asked whether he wanted to get back in the ring with Punk and Reigns after everything that has happened between them.

Drew started by promising to “slap them around” when he returns before taking a shot at Punk’s outside projects. Then he turned his attention to Reigns. McIntyre acknowledged Roman’s Street Fighter work and joked that he plans on eclipsing him in Hollywood, but then dropped the line that matters most from a WWE perspective: he still has to beat Roman because he has never done it.

“Yeah, I’ll slap them around once I get back. I’m sure, you know, Punk will like to be like, ‘Hey, I did some stuff, too.’ And I’m like, ‘What? Where would I even see your stuff?’ I don’t know. I’d have to search real hard. Roman’s got the Street Fighter out right now, so he’s doing some big things, but I think I’ll eclipse him in that area. Then I got to beat Roman cuz I’ve never beat him.”

McIntyre didn’t stop there. He joked that dealing with Reigns could also mean dealing with the enormous family surrounding him, which might force Drew to bring back a familiar piece of his old WWE presentation.

“And one other thing is I’ve got these swords here. So, if it comes to cuz Roman’s got 95 family members, I may have to bring the sword back. And I can say I had a sword in WWE for years. I never used it. Shockingly so. PG product. But Agent of Shadows, I’m telling you right now, I finally used the sword. Drew McIntyre gets sword happy in Agent of Shadows. So, check it out.”

McIntyre’s history with Reigns makes that admission much more than a random name-drop. The two collided for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at Clash at the Castle in Cardiff in September 2022, with McIntyre trying to capture the title in front of a massive UK crowd. Ringside News’ Clash at the Castle coverage documented how McIntyre came within seconds of winning before Solo Sikoa pulled the referee out of the ring following a Claymore. Reigns recovered, hit the Spear and walked away with the championship.

That loss has remained one of the biggest near-misses of McIntyre’s career. McIntyre has even included the Clash at the Castle defeat when discussing the major WWE moments where he felt the rug was pulled out from under him.

Four years later, McIntyre clearly hasn’t crossed Roman Reigns off his list. Hollywood may be keeping Drew occupied for now, but whenever he decides it is time to come back to WWE, finally getting a win over The Tribal Chief sounds like one piece of business he still intends to settle.

Do you want to see Drew McIntyre finally get another one-on-one match with Roman Reigns, and should Drew beat him this time? Let us know what you think in the comments.
