The Clash at The Castle Premium Live Event saw CM Punk cost Drew McIntyre a chance at winning the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, which led to a lot of outrage from fans in attendance. In fact, McIntyre has now revealed that he reached out to WWE in order to ensure Punk’s personal safety.
While speaking to The Scottish Sun, Drew McIntyre acknowledged the intense fan backlash after the controversial match and admitted he urged WWE to get Punk out of Glasgow before things escalated.
McIntyre expressed his frustration, calling the experience one of the worst moments of his career, despite the incredible atmosphere created by the Scottish fans. While the moment was seen as shocking entertainment worldwide, for Scotland, he felt it was a direct insult.
“I can’t wait to be back in Glasgow. We had a moment stolen away from us last time, which sucked. It was up there with one of the worst moments of my career.
It was one of the best moments of my career with the entrance, the match itself, how amazing the fans were during the match and at the end, you had one of the worst moments.”
Drew also revealed he was genuinely concerned about the crowd’s reaction, as tensions were running high. He told WWE officials that while he didn’t care what happened to Punk, he wanted to be the one to take him out, urging them to get Punk out of Glasgow before someone else did.
I was serious when I was saying you better get out of Glasgow before someone gets you.
I heard what was going on after the show, I heard people were starting fights and were really upset and I told them, ‘listen, I don’t care what happens to Punk, but someone’s going to bottle him or something and I want to be the one to do it – so get him out of Glasgow right now so I’m the one that bloody takes him out!’
Drew McIntyre and CM Punk would eventually continue their feud and that culminated in a solid Hell in a Cell match at Bad Blood last year. Fans wonder whether Punk and McIntyre will reignite their feud in the future, but it’s good to see that Drew tried to ensure Punk’s safety.
