Don Callis has hated Chris Jericho for more than three decades, and watching Jericho’s AEW comeback isn’t helping. Callis says seeing Jericho compete at such a high level at his age makes him physically sick—and that hatred finally boiled over when Jericho targeted Kevin Knight.
During an appearance on TMZ’s Inside the Ring, Callis addressed his recent attempt to get physically involved in Jericho’s confrontation with Knight. The move didn’t go well for Callis, but he made it clear that he has no regrets about stepping in. Callis said his issues with Jericho stretch all the way back to 1990, and there has never been any love between them.
“You said earlier, ‘All I do is give.’ Once in a while, I need a little something for me. I’ve known Chris Jericho since 1990. I’ve never liked him. Never liked him. He’s insufferable.”
Jericho’s ability to return and continue performing at a high level has only made Callis hate him more. Callis admitted that seeing Jericho do things he believes someone his age shouldn’t be able to do makes him sick.
“The fact that Jericho is back now and wrestling at a super-high level and just doing things that he shouldn’t be able to do at his age makes me physically sick.”
Callis said he finally lost control when he watched Jericho attack Knight and begin targeting the TNT Champion’s knee and legs. For Callis, the incident wasn’t just about protecting a member of his family. It was the result of years of resentment finally exploding in front of everyone.
“When I see Jericho taking liberties with the great Kevin Knight—the Jet, the TNT Champion—when I see him punching Kevin Knight in that beautiful face, when I see him trying to injure Kevin Knight, trying to take his legs out, trying to go after a knee, sometimes I lose my temper.”
“That was a case of 30-odd years of hatred boiling up to the surface.”
Jericho’s comeback may be winning over the crowd, but Callis clearly wants no part of it. After more than 30 years of bad blood, this doesn’t sound like a grudge that will disappear anytime soon—and Callis has already shown that he’s willing to get physically involved.
