Dominik Mysterio has finally shared the full story behind one of the most unforgettable moments of his early WWE career—getting brutally attacked by Brock Lesnar on the September 30, 2019 episode of Monday Night RAW.

Speaking on the Six Feet Under podcast, Dominik revealed he was only 21 years old when the segment took place. He explained that Rey Mysterio warned him beforehand that he was about to get beaten up but intentionally refused to tell him Brock Lesnar would be the one delivering the punishment. It wasn’t until Rey was already in the ring cutting his promo that Brock’s music hit, leaving Dominik to realize what was about to happen.

“I was 21.Yeah, yeah, yeah. So actually, funny story, again, my dad not being a good dad, leading up to that, he was like, ‘You’re gonna get your ass beat.’ And I was like, ‘Oh, cool. By who?’ He’s like, ‘I’m not gonna tell you.’

Yeah. He was like, ‘I’m not gonna tell you until I’m cutting my promo out there.’ And I was like, ‘Okay. Like, fine. Sure. Whatever.’ And then sure enough, my dad goes out and then Brock’s music hits.

“Yeah. Yeah, for sure. I didn’t know. I didn’t know what was gonna happen. Yeah, absolutely not. He just did what he did. And it was absolutely a completely different beast with him.”

As the group prepared to rewatch the segment, the conversation turned to just how violent the attack really was. Dominik laughed while recalling Brock ragdolling him around ringside and joked that he’s endured plenty of painful moments throughout his WWE career.

“You don’t remember? Bro, he ragdolled me. I’ve been through some s***.”

Dominik then broke down exactly what Brock did to him during the attack, explaining that Lesnar threw him around, slammed him into the ring post and body-slammed him onto the floor. Looking back, he joked that it felt like an unusually long initiation into the wrestling business.

“Oh no. Ragdolled me, and then hit me in the post, and then body-slammed me on the ground. Yeah. I believe it was all a slow initiation. Yeah, for sure.”

What makes the story even more remarkable is that Dominik hadn’t even wrestled his first match yet. Although he had started training, his official in-ring debut wouldn’t come until SummerSlam 2020 against Seth Rollins. He admitted that while surviving Brock made the physical side of wrestling seem easier, the business itself certainly didn’t get any less challenging.

“I was already training, yeah, at that time. But I didn’t have my first match until Seth at SummerSlam of 2020. Yeah. Everything leading up to it was definitely like a—yeah.”

“It was, but it has not been. The physical part, yes. Yeah, yeah.”

Watching the footage years later, Dominik admitted the fear on his face wasn’t acting. He explained he genuinely felt like he had no business being in the ring at that point in his career and was terrified as Lesnar closed in. Even the extras standing nearby looked scared because nobody knew exactly what Brock was going to do next.

“Yeah. It was like 21. This is—what year was this? 2019. Yeah. Yeah. Up until like a year and a half ago, I had no business being in the ring.”

“Yeah. I was terrified.I was, yeah. Those are extras next to me in case I hit them with my feet, or Brock decided to go drop one of them. She’s scared for me.”

Dominik also revealed just how little direction he received before the segment. His only instruction was to sit down and let Brock do the rest. He emphasized that he wasn’t helping Lesnar throw him around and confirmed every bit of the punishment fans saw on television was completely legitimate.

“Yeah. I was told to sit down, and then he would do the rest. Yeah. He’s like—the way he snatches me. I didn’t—yeah, it was all him. What need do I have of helping him? I mean, this was all real pain. Beat me up.”

As the group continued watching, Dominik laughed at just how long the beating actually lasted. He joked that Brock kept coming back for more, making him wonder why he’d ever agreed to be there in the first place instead of staying home or finding a regular job.

“Yeah. It just keeps going. Absolutely. And then he goes—he comes back for more. He deserves that. Wait, I should’ve been home, right? Yeah. What am I doing? I should’ve been out trying to get a job. He has me out here just, ‘Hey, come to my show.’”

Even after multiple trips around ringside, Brock still wasn’t finished. Dominik remembered thinking the former WWE Champion was deciding in real time how much more punishment he wanted to hand out before finally ending the segment.

“No, no, we’re not done. This was, I believe, somewhere in Arizona. I get one more. Yeah, but then he throws me out. I think he was, like, debating how much more he wanted to, like, do.”

Looking back, Dominik also laughed at the producers scrambling away from Lesnar before reflecting on just how long the entire segment lasted. While the attack has become one of the most memorable moments of his early WWE career, he made it clear it wasn’t Hollywood magic—the fear and the pain were both completely real.

“I love how as soon as he starts hitting the producers, Fit is, like, the first one to just roll out. He’s like, ‘Uh, I’m gone.’ This went on for a long time. I think we’re both in pain. Yeah.

“Yeah. So that—and then that’s it. Yeah. That was one of the welcomes, for sure.”

Years later, Dominik can laugh about the whole thing, but it’s obvious the experience left a lasting impression. Between Rey refusing to tell him Brock was coming, getting thrown around before he’d even had his first match, and confirming it was all real pain, it’s a story that has become one of the wildest “welcome to WWE” moments anyone could have.
