DDP has been attending WWE Premium Live Events backstage for quite some time, as he enjoys staying connected to the wrestling world in any capacity. During his backstage appearance at SummerSlam, DDP has now revealed that he had a memorable interaction with CM Punk.

While speaking to Chris Van Vliet, DDP shared an interesting experience at SummerSlam this year when Cody Rhodes asked if he had seen an email sent to the talent.

The email listed the legends scheduled to attend, including brief bios about each one, to inform the younger roster members who might not know them. The email also encouraged everyone to not only greet the legends but to thank them for their contributions, which DDP found thoughtful.

“At SummerSlam, Cody had said, ‘Did you hear about the email that went around?’ I said, ‘No,’ and he explained. The email listed the legends who were going to be there, and they just included different guys. I was on it, but when they sent that email out, they had a little bio on each person, just a brief one.

They told their crew—the boys and the girls—‘A lot of these people don’t even know who the hell we are.’ I mean, some of them weren’t even born when we were wrestling. It’s understandable. So, the email explained, ‘Here’s who they are. Don’t just say hello; thank them.’ I thought that was really cool.”

During the event, DDP, who is a fan of CM Punk, had a special moment with the Second City Saint. He revealed that Punk came up to him, gave him a hug, welcomed him in and thanked him for paving the way for wrestlers. DDP appreciated the gesture and said it meant a lot, as he already had a lot of respect for Punk.

“For me, I’m a fan of CM Punk and everything about his whole Punk-ism, you know? Just how he connects with the people and is so over. When he saw me, he literally came up, gave me a hug, and said, ‘Hey man, just want to welcome you in and thank you for paving the way.’

That was super cool of Punk. I already had a lot of respect for him, but that moment really meant a lot to me.”

Even Arn Anderson had a very wholesome backstage interaction with CM Punk at the Bad Blood Premium Live Event. Punk truly respects those who came before him, so it’s not a surprise he gave so much respect to DDP and fans believe Punk has definitely turned over a new leaf now.
