Darby Allin has done plenty of things that look like they should’ve killed him. Apparently, trying to land a kickflip at the bottom of the ocean while surrounded by 15 sharks came frighteningly close.
While speaking to 8 News Now Las Vegas, Allin was reminded of a drowning spot he previously did with Jon Moxley. His mind immediately went somewhere considerably more real.
“When you said the drowned one, I was filming Shark Week last year, and I was trying to kickflip at the bottom of the ocean with 15 sharks around my head, and then I ran out of oxygen, and I remember almost drowning there.”
And apparently, that’s what Allin initially thought the interviewer was talking about: “I thought that’s what you were referring to.” For anyone else, almost drowning while trying to skateboard underwater with sharks swimming overhead would probably be the story that ends the stunt phase of their life.
This is Darby Allin. The AEW star has built an entire career around pushing himself into increasingly ridiculous situations, both inside and outside the ring. He’s taken terrifying bumps in AEW and even performed a kickflip at the top of Mount Everest.
But the Shark Week stunt came with a very different kind of danger. There was no wrestling mat waiting underneath him and no ability to simply stop once something went wrong. Allin was underwater, surrounded by sharks, and suddenly out of oxygen.
He made it back up. Now, almost drowning at the bottom of the ocean has somehow become another Darby Allin story he can casually bring up in an interview.
What’s the craziest Darby Allin stunt you’ve seen—and is there anything you think even he should refuse to try? Let us know in the comments.
