Danhausen somehow ended up driving a go-kart into WrestleMania and sharing the ring with John Cena during his first year in WWE. The strange part is that none of it was originally supposed to happen.
While speaking on the No-Contest Wrestling Podcast, Danhausen reflected on how quickly WWE embraced his character. Rather than settling into whatever role he was originally given, Danhausen said he has been trying to find out exactly how far WWE will let him push things. That experimentation eventually took him somewhere he apparently wasn’t initially booked to be: WrestleMania.
“I think it is to push the limits of what will work and what more we can do because originally Danhausen, I don’t think, was supposed to be a part of WrestleMania, but then it was undeniable that he must be added, and then they said, ‘Guess what? John Cena.’ Oh, great. Sounds perfect.”
Getting onto WrestleMania was already a major change from the original plans, but WWE then put Danhausen in the ring with Cena. Looking back on that moment now, Danhausen realizes there’s a chance he shared Cena’s final WrestleMania appearance. He actually wishes their paths had crossed a little earlier because he would have liked to take things one step further and team with Cena.
“It could be. Could be last time ever at WrestleMania shared with Danhausen. Danhausen wishes he could have got there a little bit earlier perhaps to do a tag team with John or something. That would have been nice.”
That opportunity may have passed now that Cena is retired, and Danhausen isn’t asking him to change that. As far as he’s concerned, getting the WrestleMania moment they did was already about as good as it could get.
“But this is, you know what? This is as good as it gets. He’s retired. He gets to enjoy his time off. He’s earned it. He deserves it. And he’s going to take time off. Let’s be real. He’s the busiest person on Earth.”
Danhausen’s unexpected WrestleMania moment happened during Night 2 at Allegiant Stadium. Cena was in the ring to announce the two-night attendance when The Miz arrived looking for his own WrestleMania moment, with Kit Wilson eventually getting involved as well. Then the lights went out.
Danhausen arrived in a custom go-kart surrounded by an army of little people dressed like him. What followed included a dogpile, low blows, Danhausen’s version of Cena’s Five Knuckle Shuffle and a smoke-bomb escape that ended with him simply running underneath the ring. Cena could barely keep himself together and eventually declared, “Retired life is awesome.”
Danhausen has now revealed that the entire WrestleMania appearance came after he apparently wasn’t even supposed to be on the card. He went from having no planned spot to sharing the ring with John Cena, and considering how his first WWE year has gone, pushing the limits seems to be working out pretty well for him.
