Danhausen may not be on the Knicks roster, but he is quickly becoming part of their playoff story.

During a bonus edition of The Sal Licata Show, Sal Licata brought up Danhausen’s growing connection to the Knicks’ run and joked that his impact could end up being honored inside Madison Square Garden. With New York just one win away from closing out the series in San Antonio, Licata asked if Danhausen had thought about his cape getting retired to the rafters if the Knicks finish the job. Licata compared the idea to retired numbers and also brought up Danhausen’s past desire to be in the WWE Hall of Fame before pitching the MSG honor.

“Have you thought about, you know, like we talk about numbers getting retired. I know you wanted to be in the WWE Hall of Fame. Have you thought about maybe having your cape retired to the rafters at Madison Square Garden if the Knicks are able to win this series?”

Danhausen didn’t shut the idea down. Instead, he played right along and said a cape hanging inside the Garden could serve as a tribute to his role in the team’s playoff success.

“Oh, but that’s — we could hang a Danhausen cape up there to commemorate his contributions to this wonderful playoff run.”

Danhausen’s involvement has turned into one of the more unexpected side stories of the Knicks’ playoff run. Whether the cape actually gets raised or not, he is clearly enjoying the ride, and Knicks fans are having fun with it too.
