Damian Priest isn’t ready to walk away from wrestling anytime soon, but he already knows one thing: he is not doing this into his 50s.
While speaking to Chris D Comedy, Priest admitted he does not have an exact retirement age picked out. Still, at 43 years old with hundreds of matches behind him, he said he can feel his body changing and plans to listen when it tells him the time is right.
“I don’t have a number. I don’t have a time, but I know that I’m going to listen to my body. I’ve already — I can tell, you know, it’s just natural that you’re going to start slowing down. I don’t know how much time I have left, but I don’t plan on leaving anytime soon. But at the same time, into my 50s, definitely not. Before 50, I would be done.”
That gives Priest a clear window without making it sound like a farewell tour is coming tomorrow. He is still active, still featured, and still competing at a high level, but he is also realistic about how long his body can keep taking the grind.
Priest has already had a major WWE run, including becoming World Heavyweight Champion, and he has worked more than 680 matches across his career. So while he may not be counting down the days, he clearly is not pretending wrestling is something he can do forever.
For now, Damian Priest is staying put. But once he gets closer to 50, fans should not expect him to keep pushing for one more run just to stretch things out.
