D-Von Dudley thinks WWE had a lot more sitting right in front of them with Samantha Irvin — and never took full advantage of it before she walked away.
During the Devon and the Duke podcast, D-Von praised Irvin after listening to the album she personally sent him. He pointed to her singing, musicianship and ability to compose, but what impressed him even more was Irvin leaving WWE and betting on herself outside the company.
“What I like about her, and what I’ve got so much respect for, is she left WWE. She left the machine to go out there and pursue it without them. And I say that because a lot of people can’t do that. They leave that machine, they fail. The fact that she wasn’t even a big name, but she took the chance and left and said she wanted to do her own thing, my hat goes off to her because, again, not everybody can do that.”
D-Von made it clear he believes Irvin had a lot more to offer WWE than what fans got to see during her run.
“She’s an incredible talent and, you know, damn, I wish WWE could have did something with her.”
Duke then took it a step further, saying WWE left money on the table by keeping Irvin locked into ring announcing instead of giving her room to do more.
“They’re leaving money on the table by not bringing her back in the fold and finding something more reasonable for her to do. I understand that they wanted her to just do the ring announcing and stuff, but clearly she is far more than just a ring announcer. Come on. New owners, figure it out. TKO, figure it out.”
When D-Von asked if that was why Irvin left, Duke explained that she wanted to expand her role while WWE wanted to keep her where she was. D-Von immediately said that sounded exactly like WWE.
“Well, that’s WWE. That’s what they do. I mean, numerous people can come on this show and any show and tell you that’s the way WWE has always been. They’re number one. That’s it. Nobody else.”
Irvin walked away from WWE and put her focus into projects where she could show more than one side of herself, and D-Von clearly believes the company missed a chance to tap into everything she could do while she was there.
