Conversation with the Big Guy Recap – Rusev’s New Look, Punk & Lesnar in UFC, Cena’s Brutal Bump, More!

Ryback jokes that Buck should take a position teaching at WWE’s Performance Centre. Buck laughs and says he’s yet to receive a call from WWE with that offer, but he adds that WWE must find it difficult finding legitimately qualified trainers to hire.

Ryback says that he saw Smackdown Live last week and he can’t believe the incredible shape that Rusev is in. He thinks this is the best shape he’s ever seen Rusev in, and he gives Rusev major props for putting the work in to reshape his body. He adds that Rusev is a rare breed in the wrestling business, in that he’s universally liked by everyone backstage in WWE.

Buck and Ryback discuss the current state of UFC, and their desperate lack of mainstream stars right now. Buck believes that UFC is rallying for a Lesnar return because they need to generate PPV buys, and a fight between Lesnar and Jon Jones will certainly do that. Ryback agrees entirely and says that since Ronda Rousey and Conor McGregor aren’t selling PPVs right now, UFC needs Lesnar back.

Buck points out that in spite of CM Punk’s dismal performance in the octagon during his UFC debut, his PPV drew very good numbers. Whereas Dana White is on record saying that Punk probably shouldn’t fight in UFC anymore, the owners are probably whistling a different tune. He says that Punk is going to fight again and if it’s not in UFC it’ll be in Bellator, and UFC needs that money.

Buck points out that Terry Funk is returning to the wrestling ring soon at the ripe old age of 73. He has recovered from multiple surgeries as well as a recent health issue that resulted in him taking a break from in-ring action. He’s healthy now and ready to return to action, and Ryback is very happy that Funk can still do what he loves at his age.
