WWE is wasting no time getting to one of the biggest matches on the Clash in Italy card.

During the May 29 episode of SmackDown, Joe Tessitore announced that Cody Rhodes vs. Gunther for the Undisputed WWE Championship will officially kick off Clash in Italy on May 31.

The announcement comes after WWE previously revealed that Rhodes vs. Gunther, along with Rhea Ripley vs. Jade Cargill for the WWE Women’s Championship, will air during the first hour of the event on ESPN in the United States before the remainder of the show transitions to ESPN Unlimited.

By putting Rhodes and Gunther in the opening match slot, WWE is making it clear that it wants one of its biggest championship bouts front and center from the moment the show begins.

The match marks another major title defense for Rhodes, who continues his reign as Undisputed WWE Champion, while Gunther looks to add another world championship to an already historic WWE résumé.

Clash in Italy takes place Sunday, May 31, from the Inalpi Arena in Turin, Italy. The current lineup includes Brock Lesnar vs. Oba Femi, Becky Lynch defending the Women’s Intercontinental Championship against Sol Ruca, Rhea Ripley defending the WWE Women’s Championship against Jade Cargill, and Roman Reigns defending the World Heavyweight Championship against Jacob Fatu in a Tribal Combat Match.

With Cody Rhodes and Gunther opening the show, WWE is starting Clash in Italy with one of the most anticipated championship matches on the entire card.

Do you think Cody Rhodes will retain the Undisputed WWE Championship, or is Gunther about to leave Italy with the gold? Let us know in the comments below.
