Cody Rhodes found a way to get a WWE legend paid, and he says the reason was simple — it was the right thing to do.

While speaking on his What Do You Wanna Talk About? podcast, Cody revealed he recently had a contract come across his desk and decided to add something extra at the end. It was not some massive career-changing deal, but Cody wanted control over one specific part: choosing a legend for the TV commercial portion.

“I did a contract recently. It’s not anything major life changing. Our friends at Wheatley are indeed our friends at Wheatley. I did this contract recently and I put in the end, I said I just want to select a legend for the TVC portion. You want a what? I wanted to select the legend. I wanted to be able to put someone from the Hall of Fame group or one of our legends of those guys. And I’ve come to realize my only answer for why it’s because it’s the right thing to do.”

That’s where DDP came into the conversation. Cody said being in Stamford more often has made him think about that kind of responsibility more, and he credited Diamond Dallas Page for already leading by example when it comes to looking after wrestlers from the past.

“And I don’t know why, but it’s more than ever. Maybe it’s being here often. I’ve been in Stanford more than ever, more more than ever. It’s got me to this. It’s the right thing to do. And you lead the charge on. It’s the right thing to do.”

Then Cody got personal. He pointed to DDP’s work with Scott Hall, Jake Roberts and Lex Luger, saying Page gave them time, clarity and something a lot of wrestlers do not always get — better final chapters.

“Scott, Jake, Lex Hall of Fame and just an amazing situation and the wrestling business. And I, I don’t know if I can speak on behalf of the wrestling business, but probably someone who maybe thanks you. Those guys all thank you, the families all thank you, no doubt. But I thank you because you’ve given time, you’ve given clarity, you’ve given final chapters.”

Cody is not just giving the usual “respect the legends” speech. He is saying he actually put it in writing when he had the chance. For Cody, if there is room to bring a Hall of Famer or WWE legend into the mix, he wants to make sure that door stays open. Bottom line, Cody Rhodes used a contract to make space for a legend, and he says there was no complicated reason behind it. Sometimes, in his words, it is just the right thing to do.
