Cody Rhodes hasn’t turned heel, but he’s definitely having more fun talking about it than he used to. Months after admitting he’d become open to the idea of eventually changing sides, The American Nightmare revisited the topic during the Flagrant podcast, even entertaining a brand-new look for a potential heel version of himself.

Back in April, Rhodes surprised a lot of fans by walking back comments he’d made about never wanting to become a villain. After previously insisting there wasn’t a heel turn in his future, he admitted he’d changed his mind and was now “open to all paths and avenues,” leaving the door open for whatever direction WWE might eventually take.

That subject came up again on Flagrant, where Cody Rhodes joked that people have been asking him about turning heel for years.

“Man, I think the last time I was on your show was, what, two years ago or three?… Look how long this has been.”

The conversation then shifted to his iconic blond hair. Asked whether he’d go back to darker hair if he ever became a heel, Cody admitted he honestly didn’t know: “Well, that is a very good question. I don’t know. Would it be?” When the hosts suggested dark hair with a single blond streak, Rhodes actually seemed to love the concept.

“That’s kind of cool. Exactly.”

Before anyone started treating it like breaking news, though, Cody quickly shut the rumors back down. After the hosts jokingly claimed he’d just announced a heel turn, Rhodes immediately made it clear that wasn’t the case.

“I haven’t announced anything. No, no news has come from the pod…”

So while Cody is clearly much more open to discussing a potential heel turn than he was earlier in his WWE run, nothing has actually changed. He may like the idea of dark hair and a blond streak, but for now, The American Nightmare is still exactly who fans have been watching every week.

Would you like to see Cody Rhodes finally turn heel, or is he better off staying WWE’s top babyface? Let us know in the comments below.
