Cody Rhodes knows WWE creative can throw some wild stuff at him, but the American Nightmare’s not sweating it.

While speaking on What Do You Wanna Talk About?, Cody said there have been times backstage when people wondered if certain decisions were really good for him, especially when they were seen as bad decisions. Whether it was WrestleMania, the title change in Germany, or momentum shifting toward someone like Drew McIntyre, Cody said his answer has usually been the same.

“You know, here’s something that I’ve adopted at Backstage and the real cameras have, they’ve seen me say it enough that I feel like they now know what I mean. But we run in all these situations where it’s WrestleMania this year, for example, or the title change in Germany. And let’s pivot, let’s make some different moves and all this. And oh, there’s a lot of momentum behind Drew. Do people love Drew? And as they should. He’s awesome.”

The Undisputed WWE Champion said that when people ask whether something might hurt him creatively, he does not panic. He just falls back on what he has learned from experience, making it clear that he can survive it.

“I always tell people because people will say I don’t know if that’s good for you or you know, and I don’t know if I mean it arrogantly. I think I just mean it from my own experience. But what I tell them is I can survive it.”

That line has apparently become part of his backstage reputation. Cody said Michael Hayes and Paul Heyman have heard him say it plenty of times, and he now sees it as part of what makes him work as a babyface.

“That’s what I tell everyone. Michael Hayes has heard me say it a lot. Mr. Heyman’s heard me say it a lot, is I can survive it. I don’t know if that’s good or bad, but I felt like as a babyface, it’s becoming a powerful trait.”

Then Cody summed up the whole mindset pretty simply. WWE can throw chaos, setbacks and tough creative choices at him, but he believes he can take the hit and keep moving: “Like great. All of this. This, this all this is a lot, guys. You know what? I can survive it.”

At the end of the day, Cody Rhodes is not saying every creative decision is perfect. He is saying he has enough confidence in himself and his connection with fans to weather the storm when things get messy.
