Cody Rhodes knows people want answers about that mysterious Marvel meeting, but he’s not giving them anything. In fact, the former Undisputed WWE Champion says people have been throwing potential characters at him all day, and he’s refusing to confirm whether any of those guesses are even close.
Speaking to Brandon Davis, Cody was asked just how many times he’d already been questioned about his heavily discussed trip to Marvel’s offices. Apparently, one person sitting next to him throughout the day had been having some fun by teasing supposed details that Cody says aren’t real.
“You know, there’s one guy in particular who was sitting next to me on this couch pretty much all day who is teasing things that aren’t real — and if they were real, I wouldn’t say anything — and guessing characters that are great, great characters.”
That’s about as much as Cody was willing to give away. Even if somebody happened to correctly guess what was discussed during the meeting, he made it pretty clear he wouldn’t be the guy confirming it.
Marvel isn’t exactly unfamiliar territory for Cody either. He explained that his connection to those characters goes all the way back to childhood, when trading cards and the animated series basically became his Marvel education.
“Because I grew up — I mean, I learned every Marvel character you could from the trading cards, and then, of course, I had the animated series, and we have it again now.”
For all the speculation surrounding the meeting, Cody pointed out that he hasn’t actually said much about what happened behind those doors. All he’s publicly acknowledged is that he visited the Marvel offices, met with people there and took a photo afterwards.
“It’s been heavily discussed, but I never discuss it. That’s the beauty. I’ve said nothing other than that was just a photo at a wonderful office after a wonderful meeting with wonderful people.”
The interviewer then brought up just how impressive Marvel’s offices are, and Cody agreed before mentioning the huge amount of history and material available there. He even explained how easy it would be for someone to quickly study up if Marvel hypothetically approached them about playing a particular character.
“Yeah, it is, really. And also the whole history — if they had said to you, ‘Hey, this character,’ something like that, and you go in there, there’s a whole library. You could take 30 minutes and go, ‘Got it. Know it.’ You know?”
That doesn’t mean Cody just confirmed Marvel offered him a role, and he was careful to frame the whole thing as a hypothetical. Still, he clearly knows exactly how much attention that meeting has received, and he’s having no problem keeping everyone guessing.
