CM Punk’s return to WWE didn’t just happen because of business decisions — it also came from personal growth and learning to let go of old grudges.

While speaking on the Nightcap podcast, Punk reflected on how different he feels now compared to earlier stages of his career. He admitted that holding onto anger and resentment used to weigh him down, and eventually he realized that it was hurting him more than anyone else. That shift in mindset became a major factor in allowing him to return to WWE.

“A lot of things that I would hold on to, you know, like if you're angry about something that happened in the past or you hold a grudge, you know, you're holding on to this hot coal and after a while—seven years—you realize like what I'm only hurting myself.”

Punk explained that once he stopped focusing on past issues and started prioritizing his own growth, everything became easier — including communication with people he previously clashed with.

“So just focus on you, not really worried about other stuff, you know, and just kind of shed some baggage. That helped me be able to come back. Just let stuff go, right?”

He also acknowledged that many conflicts in wrestling come down to communication problems and pride getting in the way — something he believes he handles differently now.

“You know, I had problems with people, and to me, what it amounts to is bad communication on both sides and then your pride gets in the way… if I got a problem with you, let's just talk about it. Let's have a conversation.”

That evolution in mindset appears to be one of the biggest reasons Punk was able to return to WWE after years of tension and unresolved issues. Sometimes the biggest comeback isn’t physical — it’s mental.

Do you think CM Punk’s mindset change played the biggest role in his WWE return, or was it more about timing and business? Drop your thoughts and join the conversation.
