Professional wrestling meets spine-chilling horror in Dark Match, a new feature film set to hit Shudder on January 31. The movie blends the intensity of the wrestling ring with the terror of a backwoods cult, and it’s led by none other than AEW superstar Chris Jericho.

Jericho steps into the sinister role of Prophet, a cult leader with dark intentions. The story follows a group of wrestlers from a small promotion who unknowingly find themselves in a life-or-death showdown. As the film’s trailer hints, Prophet’s twisted vision blurs the line between wrestling entertainment and real danger.

“People told me that pro wrestling was fake,” Jericho declares in the trailer. “Pro wrestling was about sacrifice. Only one walks away.”

The movie, directed by Lowell Dean, was filmed in Edmonton, Alberta, and comes from Canadian production company Dept. 9 Studios. With Jericho’s electrifying performance and a plot that pits wrestlers against Satanists in a terrifying match, Dark Match promises to be a must-watch for wrestling and horror fans alike.

The trailer teases an intense mix of action and horror, with Jericho’s character seemingly ready to unleash chaos on unsuspecting wrestlers. The tagline alone is enough to send shivers: “A group of wrestlers find out just how real wrestling can get when they become the guests of honor at a match held by Satanists.”

Dark Match is set to debut exclusively on Shudder, the go-to platform for horror enthusiasts, on January 31.
