Chris Jericho has plenty of love for Back to the Future, but apparently that love does not extend to the actual DeLorean.
During an episode of Talk Is Jericho, Jericho and Brad Gilmore were wrapping up their discussion of Back to the Future Part III when Gilmore mentioned how the franchise is still so strong that people continue seeking out DeLoreans decades later. That was when Jericho jumped in and made it clear he does not understand the obsession.
“DeLoreans aren’t that cool either. When you see them up close, they kind of look clunky and crappy.”
Gilmore asked Jericho if he had ever actually driven one before. Jericho said he had not, but he had seen one owned by WWE star Sheamus. Jericho said getting an up-close look at Sheamus’ DeLorean did nothing to change his mind.
“I haven’t, but I’ve seen Sheamus, not the Sheamus McFly, but Sheamus the wrestler had one. I remember going to look. I was like, ‘Yeah, I wouldn’t want to buy this. It’s not cool.’”
That is a pretty savage review for one of the most recognizable cars in movie history. The DeLorean became permanently linked to Back to the Future after Doc Brown turned it into a time machine, but Jericho clearly thinks movie magic did a lot of heavy lifting when it came to making the car look cooler than it actually is.
Jericho may still be a fan of the movies, but if anyone was wondering whether he is planning to park a stainless-steel DeLorean in his garage anytime soon, that answer sounds like a very hard no.
