Chavo Guerrero is not shutting the door on another match, and when Rey Mysterio’s name came up, he made it clear that their chemistry is still very real.
During his appearance on Gabby AF, Chavo talked about Rey’s insane longevity, the toll wrestling has taken on his body, and why stepping into the ring with him again would not take much convincing. Gabby praised Rey Mysterio and said she still wants to see him wrestle forever. Chavo then explained just how impressive Rey’s run really is, especially when you consider how young he started.
“Rey, you know, he’s getting up not just in age but his experience. He started when he was like, you know, 13 or 14 years old.”
Chavo pointed out that Rey has battled through a long list of injuries while still performing at an elite level.
“He just kept going on after injury after injury after injury. He’s probably had 10 knee surgeries and different surgeries here and there.”
He said it is one thing to think you can still perform like that, but actually doing it night after night is a totally different story.
“You always think you can do it. Like now, I think I can do it, sure. But then you get in the ring and it’s like back in the day we did it four days a week minimum.”
Chavo remembered how wrestlers used to have to deliver their best match over and over again with almost no break. He admitted that he can still go out there and have a strong match, but doing it repeatedly at that level is the tough part.
“You had your best match and the next morning woke up, you had to have your best match again, and then wake up, you have your next best match again.”
“I go out there now, and people are like, ‘Oh man, you still got it.’ I said, ‘Yeah, I can’t do it tomorrow.’ I got it once.”
Chavo said the level Rey is still working at, especially in WWE and AAA, is extremely demanding.
“The level that they’re doing it at, the AAA WWE level, it’s so high. The level’s so high up there, but it’s really tough to do it in your 50s.”
Later in the conversation, Gabby asked if fans could ever see Chavo back in a WWE or AAA ring. Chavo made it clear that the Guerrero family does not really believe in retirement.
“You know what? Guerreros never retire. We never really stop wrestling. We always keep it going. It’s just who we are. It’s just in our DNA.”
Chavo pointed to his recent TNA match in El Paso as proof that he still felt good in the ring. He then said he never rules anything out because in wrestling, one phone call can change everything.
“My last kind of big match was that TNA show in El Paso. That was awesome. It was great. I felt really good in the ring. I was in the ring with some really great guys and my hometown of El Paso.”
“You never know. I never say never because it’s just a phone call. You think I’m never going to do this again and all of a sudden you get a call going, well, I guess I’m doing it again.”
Gabby floated the idea of Rey Mysterio having a retirement tour like John Cena and possibly calling Chavo for one more match. Chavo didn’t hesitate when talking about what he and Rey could still do together. Chavo said that kind of chemistry does not go away because they have done it everywhere.
“Rey and I, I know Rey so well. He knows me so well. Right now tomorrow, give me five days to get into the card and we would tear the place down.”
“That’s just how well we know each other. We’ve done it everywhere.”
He also gave Rey his flowers as one of the greatest to ever lace up a pair of boots. Chavo’s comments make it clear that while Rey Mysterio’s body has been through a war, the respect is still massive. And if the right call ever comes in, Chavo Guerrero sounds more than ready to run it back one more time.
