TNA Wrestling has some big decisions to make, and a whole bunch of wrestlers could soon be sitting down to discuss their futures with the company. With numerous contracts getting ready to expire, TNA management has already held a backstage meeting to address the situation.
According to Fightful Select, TNA has been operating largely on short-term talent deals, and several of those agreements are set to expire over the next couple of months. The number of upcoming expirations is significant enough that TNA President Carlos Silva decided to address the roster during a recent set of television tapings.
Silva told talent that the company plans to begin working through contract negotiations in the coming weeks, around Bound For Glory. Rather than having wrestlers wondering when they’ll hear from management, Silva wanted everyone to know those conversations were coming.
There’s also a creative reason behind the push to get contracts sorted out. Silva wants TNA to be able to plan storylines further in advance, something that’s obviously difficult when the company doesn’t know which wrestlers will still be under contract a few months down the road.
The timing is especially important because Fightful Select noted that a large number of TNA contracts are also coming up in December. That gives the company a relatively short window to figure out who will be staying and who could potentially be heading elsewhere.
For now, there’s no indication that the meeting involved any specific departures or that certain wrestlers have decided against signing new deals. The discussion was intended to prepare talent for upcoming negotiations rather than announce any roster changes.
Still, TNA has plenty of work ahead of it. With Bound For Glory approaching and December bringing another wave of expiring contracts, Silva is trying to get ahead of the situation before it becomes a bigger headache. Whether TNA manages to keep everyone it wants is another story.
