Carlito Questions Why WWE Didn’t Use Him More With AAA Before His Exit

Carlito still doesn’t understand why WWE didn’t lean on him more once the company took over AAA, because from where he was sitting, the fit was staring everybody right in the face.

While discussing the end of his latest WWE run with Inside the Ropes, Carlito admitted he already expected his contract to run out with Triple H in charge. He then turned his attention to AAA and questioned why WWE didn’t do more with a veteran who speaks Spanish and already has name recognition in Mexico.

“With AAA, you’d think, duh. You know, it doesn’t make sense to me. Maybe, I don’t know, maybe I’m stupid or arrogant, whatever. It would make sense, you know, somebody speaks Spanish, well known in Mexico.”

Carlito wasn’t claiming WWE owed him some giant push, but he clearly saw the AAA connection as an obvious opportunity that never really went anywhere. By that point, though, his bigger concern was making sure he didn’t vanish from WWE television and quietly become an afterthought. Carlito wanted to leave while fans still gave a damn about him.

“I just wanted when I left WWE for people to still care, and I feel like you guys still care, right?”

He said the last thing he wanted was to sit at home for months before WWE announced his departure and have fans wondering whether he had even still been employed.

“That’s all I cared about instead of, you know, being one of those guys that’s off TV for months and then they say, ‘Oh yeah, they released so-and-so,’ and you’re like, ‘Oh, I didn’t realize he was still there.’”

Carlito may not have gotten the AAA role he thought made perfect sense, but he did get the exit he wanted. He stayed visible until late in his run and walked away believing fans still cared instead of fading into the background before his contract ended.
