Candice Michelle found herself trending during WWE Evolution — without even being there. The WWE veteran became the talk of social media after Michael Cole repeatedly called Candice LeRae “Candice Michelle” during the women’s battle royal. The moment sparked confusion and nostalgia all at once, with fans flooding Michelle’s inbox.

Speaking on Primetime with Sean Mooney, Michelle explained how she first heard the news while attending a farewell event.

“I found out almost right when it happened. Many people just started messaging me. I was at a farewell event for somebody that is moving out of town and I was like, ‘What are all these messages?’ ‘They keep announcing you at Evolution!’ ‘What do you mean? I’m not there.’ As I got out of the event, I heard what happened. It was this fun surprise to be part of Evolution when you’re not really invited to be part of Evolution. I think God has a bigger plan than he invited me.”

Michelle hasn’t wrestled for WWE since 2009, but the blunder gave her a surprising spotlight. When asked how it felt to trend without being involved in the event, she took it as a meaningful reminder of her legacy.

“I think it’s pretty cool to be the only wrestler to not be at the event and be trending. There is something to say about that. It was a great opportunity to remind myself that I am a big part of this wrestling business and where it was and has come from, and knowing where it’s going. This Evolution was really about where it’s at and where it’s going in the future with a lot of NXT female wrestlers coming on board and having a great opportunity to be part of this. I enjoyed it. I think I got more notoriety than if I would have if I had been in the battle royal. Watching the 20 girls in there, they did an incredible job. It’s always really hard to showcase what you got in situations like that. I think it was the perfect opportunity for me.”

Several other WWE legends like Torrie Wilson, Jacqueline, Ivory, and Molly Holly were shown in the audience during Evolution. When asked if she would’ve been open to making a crowd cameo, Michelle said she wouldn’t have turned it down if the timing worked.

“I think if it worked with my schedule, I would have. I wouldn’t be opposed to it. It was nice to see those other women there. That was the generation for me and even before me. When those women are in the crowd and they are recognized, I enjoyed that when I was watching. They’re representing the era I was in and the era before me. I enjoy that. I think it’s more of a schedule thing. When you’re not totally involved, I’m running a business and a practice, so it just has to work out.”

Even without lacing up her boots, Candice Michelle proved she can still steal attention — all thanks to a little slip of the tongue.
