Bruce Prichard is preparing to undergo neck surgery, and the WWE executive’s injury apparently goes all the way back to one of the most memorable angles of the Brother Love character.

Conrad Thompson revealed the news during his podcast with Eric Bischoff, explaining that Prichard recently discovered just how much damage had been done to his neck.

The wild part is that the injury did not happen recently. According to Thompson, Prichard’s neck problems trace back to 1991, when The Ultimate Warrior attacked Brother Love as part of the storyline that wrote Prichard’s character off WWF television.

That segment saw Warrior completely destroy Brother Love before the character disappeared from television, but Prichard apparently carried something much more serious away from the angle than anyone realized at the time. More than three decades later, Prichard only recently learned just how badly his neck had been damaged, and surgery is now in his future.

Prichard has remained a major behind-the-scenes figure in WWE for years, serving as one of the company’s key executives and working closely with WWE creative. That makes his upcoming procedure notable beyond the obvious health concerns, especially if the surgery requires him to spend any significant amount of time away from his normal responsibilities.

It is also another reminder of just how much punishment performers and personalities took during that era, even in segments that were designed primarily to advance television storylines. In Prichard’s case, the physical consequences of one angle apparently followed him for more than 30 years before the full extent of the damage became clear.

For now, Prichard is expected to undergo surgery soon as he deals with an injury that began during one of Brother Love’s most famous WWF moments.
