Brian Myers still hasn’t fully moved on from WWE’s COVID-era talent cuts.

During an interview with Chris Van Vliet, the former WWE Superstar admitted the situation continues to bother him because of how WWE handled releases during one of the most uncertain periods in wrestling history.

Brian Myers explained that the situation especially frustrated him because WWE was financially secure while other wrestling companies were finding ways to avoid cutting talent. While discussing the release, Myers admitted there is still lingering frustration years later.

“That one I still have a little sore spot for.”

He then directly called out WWE for being the only major wrestling company making cuts at the time.

“No wrestling company fired anyone in that time but WWE.”

Myers pointed out that WWE was also the richest company in the business. The release caught Myers completely off guard because he had recently signed a new contract before being cut.

“The most powerful, richest one. I thought that was a little strange.”

“I just signed this contract. So, I was very blindsided by it.”

Despite the frustration, Myers admitted the release eventually pushed him toward a much happier chapter of his career in TNA Wrestling. Shortly after leaving WWE, Tommy Dreamer contacted him about potentially joining TNA, though Myers admitted he had absolutely no clue what his future looked like at the time.

“I hadn’t really thought about anything like what is Brian Myers now in wrestling. I had no idea.”

Over time, Myers realized the release may have been a blessing in disguise because he found genuine happiness outside WWE. Brian Myers also explained that unlike his first WWE release years earlier, he no longer feels obsessed with returning because he genuinely enjoys where he is now professionally.

“It was just one of those things that all worked out.”

“I haven’t thought about that once. Not once. Cuz I’m so happy.”

The COVID-era WWE releases remain one of the company’s most controversial decisions in recent memory, and Brian Myers clearly still has strong feelings about how everything unfolded behind the scenes.
