Nikki Bella and Brie Bella are having so much fun working with Danhausen that they admitted it’s becoming difficult not to break character whenever he’s around.

While speaking on the Battleground podcast, the Bella Twins opened up about Danhausen’s now-running “Bella clones” joke and explained why filming segments with him has become completely unpredictable in the best possible way. When asked how hard it is to stay serious around him during backstage videos and social media content, Nikki admitted they clicked with him immediately.

“Oh yes—like, naturally, from the first time we did something with him, there’s just some people you work with where you have great chemistry.”

She explained that the chemistry started instantly because of Danhausen’s off-the-wall humor and bizarre delivery. Nikki also admitted staying in character around him is genuinely difficult because of how naturally funny he is

“So with him, right off the bat, we did. And it was really funny because of the whole ‘Bella clones’ thing. But it is hard—I love it, though. You have to stay serious, and you’re just like…”

Brie then jumped in and explained that working with Danhausen feels chaotic because nobody fully knows what he’s about to say next. She continued by saying most of the time they’re simply reacting in real time to wherever Danhausen decides to take the segment.

“You kind of have to go with it. It’s not like it’s all perfectly planned. Really what he’s going to say. You just have an idea of what might happen, but you never know which way he’s going to go, so you kind of just lean into it.”

The Bellas then praised Danhausen’s creativity, with Brie calling him incredibly talented while Nikki explained that he represents a type of WWE personality she feels has been missing from the product: “He is—he’s so talented, and we’ve been having so much fun.” Nikki then directly compared Danhausen’s energy to legendary comedy-style WWE characters from past eras, specifically mentioning Santino Marella.

“And he gives me what I’ve been missing so much. A part of our product is those colorful characters.”

She continued by saying fans clearly connect with those personalities because they bring a different type of entertainment to WWE television. Nikki then brought up Santino specifically, saying a personality like that would still work perfectly in modern WWE.

“So he’s been such a blessing—showing that the fans are loving him. And it just shows we are missing those kinds of characters. Like if Santino Marella were to show up right now, we’d all be in heaven because he would just bring that moment of laughter.”

The conversation eventually turned even more ridiculous when Nikki started fantasy-booking actual “Bella clones” appearing on WWE television as part of the running joke.

“I think it would be a really good idea—like Brie needs to show up with clones at one point, or he does something and it’d be funny if two Bella twins just pop out.”

Bottom line: Nikki and Brie Bella admitted working with Danhausen has become difficult because his unpredictable comedy constantly makes them want to break character, while Nikki also praised him for bringing back the kind of colorful WWE personalities she feels the company has been missing.
