Becky Lynch never stepped into an MMA cage, but the Man just revealed that Ronda Rousey briefly had her thinking about it.
While speaking with Stephanie McMahon on the What’s Your Story? podcast, Becky reflected on working with Rousey and revealed that one particular moment during their rivalry left her surprisingly confident about how much punishment she could take.
The conversation started when Stephanie recalled preparing for matches with Rousey. Stephanie admitted that working with the former UFC champion could be physically demanding because of her combat sports background.
Stephanie McMahon: “So it was funny because I had been training for Ronda and working with Ronda, and at the time, it was her first match. And you know, it was a little stiff on occasion. I’m sure she didn’t mean it that way, but even her soft was probably just felt stiff. I’ve been there. So it was rough for three months. And then afterwards, I was a little like, you know what? I’m good. I don’t think I need to wrestle anymore. I used to love to take bumps. This is like my favorite thing. And then I was like, maybe I don’t have that itch anymore.”
That led Becky to share a story of her own. Rather than being intimidated by Rousey’s physicality, Becky said it actually made her consider going into MMA. However, Becky quickly realized that taking a beating and giving one are two very different things.
“You know, wrestling her, there was one time when she beat me up and I remember thinking, not because I could fight back, but I was like, oh, I can take a beating. Maybe I could go into MMA. You know, but then that lasted one week, yeah. But I could take it.”
Becky and Rousey’s rivalry remains one of WWE’s biggest missed singles matches, especially after Rousey recently revealed she once pitched a full WrestleMania one-on-one match with Lynch that never happened. Still, Becky’s story proves Ronda left her mark either way.
