CM Punk’s comeback at the Survivor Series Premium Live Event in 2023 created a huge buzz in the world of professional wrestling. It was an electrifying moment that surprised many fans as well. Punk has now revealed that his return happened amidst some last-minute chaos backstage just before he stepped out for the show.

Many fans thought the rumors about CM Punk’s return were just talk as the Survivor Series Premium Live Event wrapped up after the WarGames match. But everything changed when the camera zoomed out and static filled the arena. The Allstate Arena erupted as Punk made his way to the top of the stage, and he could finally relax. However, the moments leading up to his entrance were anything but simple.

On the first episode of the podcast, No-Contest Wrestling with O’Shea Jackson Jr. and T.J. Jefferson, CM Punk shared that there was a mix-up right before he went out. Triple H had told him to walk to the cages, but Punk wasn’t sure if that meant the cages at the top of the ramp or the WarGames cage. This confusion led to some frantic moments before he appeared in front of the excited Chicago crowd.

The Second City Saint explained that he was overwhelmed by the noise and the crowd. He wasn’t sure what to do and lost his composure. While trying to talk to Triple H over the loud noise, Punk felt lost. When his music played, he panicked, asking what he was supposed to do. Triple H instructed him to walk down to the cage, but Punk thought he meant to go all the way to the cage, which caused more confusion. They were both anxious and trying to figure things out as time was running out.

Eventually, they got it sorted out, but the backstage chaos was intense. Punk noted that everything was happening at the last minute, with lots of people around. He enjoyed that sense of chaos and uncertainty, saying it made the moment even better. When his music hit, the crowd’s reaction was overwhelming.

“But there were just so many people in there, and then I don’t know what to do. I absolutely lose my composure. All I know is I’m coming out. But I don’t know what the set looks like, I don’t know if there’s a ramp. I’m literally in the dark. So I’m trying to talk to Triple H over the table, and it’s so loud and there’s so many people and they hit my music and I’m like, ‘I don’t know what I’m doing. What am I doing?’ And he’s like, ‘Go out and walk down to the cage.’ And I’m like, ‘Go out and walk all the way down to the cage!?’

He was trying to tell me that there was two cages for the babyfaces and the heels for WarGames and he wanted me to walk down and stand in-between them. So in my head, I’m like, I’m marching all the way to the cage and he’s like, ‘No!’ My music’s playing, and we’re going back-and-forth and we’re both freaking out. He went, ‘No!’ And he rips his headset off and I’m like, ‘Oh God! What are we doing!?’

Obviously, we figured it out. But the chaos backstage, I mean, it’s last minute, there’s so much stuff going on back there and they film everything now so I’m sure someday we’re gonna see a lot of cool stuff. It was just such a great moment and I love that chaos and that uncertainty again. I was like, man, I could just drink it up all day. But when the music hit, it was deafening!”

CM Punk also revealed the original plans for his WWE return. Regardless, The Second City Saint truly thrives in chaos and he wouldn’t have it any other way, especially now that he is once again a top star in WWE.
