AEW brought Double or Nothing to the Louis Armstrong Stadium in Queens, New York. The night was full of big moments throughout the entire show. The Owen Hart Foundation Tournament also stole the show for a bit.
In a Women’s Owen Hart Cup Quarterfinal match, Athena vs. Mina Shirakawa went down. The Owen Hart Cup was on the entrance, and they brought attention to that trophy during the match as a real prize to win.
Those two women took each other to the limit, with a lot of near falls along the way. Athena used her size advantage against Mina Shirakawa as much as she could. However, Mina had no issue moving Athena around the ring, even hoisting her up on her shoulders to bring her down to the mat.
The two traded the advantage in this match a few times, with a slew of fast offensive moves. Mina readied herself to close out the match after she got the best of Athena at one point, but the former Ember Moon kept fighting.
In the end, Athena pulled off the win to advance in the tournament. She will take on the winner of Saree and Skye Blue later on in the tournament. That being said, she is one step closer to making history.
The Owen Hart Foundation Tournament started in 2022 alongside Martha Hart and the Owen Hart Foundation, with the winners receiving “The Owen” trophy and a special championship belt.
Britt Baker became the first women’s winner in 2022, giving the tournament an immediate marquee name. In 2023, Willow Nightingale scored one of the biggest wins of her career with an emotional tournament victory that helped establish her as one of AEW’s top babyfaces.
Mariah May won the tournament in 2024 during her breakout run in AEW, while Mercedes Moné added her name to the list in 2025. Only time will tell who wins the big tournament this year, but it seems that AEW is going to give those women a good stage to show off.
