The pro wrestling world can be a complicated place, and that especially goes for contracts. Andrade has found himself in a very bad place, one where he may be sitting at home for a long time without the ability to wrestle for anyone. Naturally, this brought some attention, and now he has David Otunga to call about it.

David Otunga has a growing influence outside the ring thanks to his popular YouTube channel, which comes with his fair share of hot takes. During an interview on TMZ’s Inside The Ring, Otunga revealed that Andrade reached out to him after watching one of his legal analysis videos. The video in question broke down the controversial contract situation surrounding Andrade’s WWE exit and the non-compete clause that followed.

Otunga has been using his YouTube channel to explore legal issues in pro wrestling, including non-compete clauses, contract classification, and how WWE treats independent contractors. He is WWE’s only Harvard educated attorney, after all. Otunga also offered to help WWE with their contracts during one video.

David Otunga went on to speak about Andrade’s situation, and this led to him speaking with Andrade. He didn’t reveal much about their conversation, but that is a very interesting note to ponder, especially considering Andrade’s possible future legal steps that he may have to take due to his contract situation.

“I covered the non-compete and talked about Andrade’s situation. Everybody was telling me, ‘Hey, you should reach out to Andrade. Make sure he sees this.’ And so, I said, ‘Yeah, actually Andrade probably should see my video.’ And then he did. And I’ll say this—he reached out, and we spoke.”

David Otunga stopped short of giving specifics, noting legal restrictions around their communication. “Can’t really get into it more than that, but I’m just happy that the videos I’m putting out are actually helping people. They’re actually helping wrestlers,” he said.

When asked if Andrade learned something new from the video, Otunga confirmed it, but he was very careful about what he said. After all, these are very delicate legal matters, and WWE is likely watching.

“Yeah… and the reason I’m not saying more is—I am a licensed lawyer. I don’t know where our relationship is going… representation-wise or not. So in order to preserve that, I can’t talk about anything that we said. But that’s why I’m just saying: we spoke. And yeah, the presumption was that he was made aware of things from my video and wanted to speak to me further about that.”

Andrade’s WWE situation is a very complex one, because he was fired for cause. That triggered a one-year non-compete clause, which contradicted WWE’s standard 90-day period and has sparked backlash from fans and legal experts alike.

After Andrade appeared on AEW programming, WWE reportedly sent a cease and desist letter, so he was pulled from future bookings. Now, we are in the middle of a waiting game to see how this all plays out.

David Otunga has an interesting role in this story, because his legal expertise, and knowledge of the pro wrestling business, could help whoever has him on his side. For now, it appears that El Idolo may just have Otunga in his corner.
