Alexa Bliss is officially adding music to her growing list of creative projects, but her first song came together in a way she never expected. Rather than sitting down to write lyrics herself, the inspiration came from years of hilarious text messages she had sent to her husband, Ryan Cabrera.

Back in September, Bliss announced that she’d be releasing her first-ever song, “I’m Just Drunk (Lexi’s Texts),” on October 9. She shared a preview of the track alongside Cabrera, marking her first venture into music after branching into voice acting with projects like The Queen of Villains and Sakamoto Days.

Now, while speaking on Busted Open Radio, Bliss revealed exactly how the song came together. According to Bliss, Cabrera had been secretly saving some of the funniest and most outrageous texts she’d sent him over the years, originally planning to turn them into a coffee table book or another creative project.

“My husband is a songwriter. He writes all the songs on his albums. He’s been collecting a Notes on his phone of all the outlandish and crazy things I’ve texted him over the years. He’s gonna make it a coffee table book or some kind of art piece for an article.”

One particular exchange ended up becoming the foundation for the song. Bliss explained that after Cabrera jokingly called her a drama queen, she fired back with a text that read, “I’m not a drama queen, I’m just drunk,” and he immediately realized it could work as a chorus.

“Yeah, the full text was, he said I was being a drama queen. I told him, ‘I’m not a drama queen, I’m just drunk.’ That was the preface in that. He was like, ‘These would actually be funny as a song.’ So he took three or four days arranging the texts.”

Ryan Cabrera then spent several days turning Alexa Bliss’ messages into actual lyrics, recording voice notes as he experimented with different melodies before eventually presenting the finished idea to her.

“So he arranged it into a song, and we were going through his phone the other day. He has all these voice notes of him coming up with the melody. He’s singing into the melody some of the texts. He’s like, ‘Okay, these don’t fit.’ He took three or four days, wrote it, and then put the melody into it and fed it through a program to show a go on it and show me.”

When Cabrera finally played the song for her, Bliss admitted she was worried it might end up embarrassing her. Instead, she found herself loving how catchy it was, leading them back into the studio to record the finished version with several well-known musicians joining the project.

“He’s like, ‘Alright, I wrote a song with your text messages.’ I told him, ‘Please don’t embarrass me.’ He said, ‘I won’t embarrass you.’ The song came out catchy, so then we went back to the studio. I sang my vocals on it. We have Jaret from Bowling for Soup, we have Tommy Carlucci on the drums, Ryan, of course, plays guitar… It turns out fun, and I’m excited for everyone to hear how ridiculous our conversations are.”

With “I’m Just Drunk (Lexi’s Texts)” arriving on October 9, fans now know the story behind one of the more unusual songs to come out of the wrestling world. Whether it’s the start of more music or simply a fun one-off collaboration with Cabrera, Bliss clearly had a blast turning years of private text messages into something everyone can hear.
