AJ Styles is retired, but he says that doesn’t mean he can never wrestle again. If The Phenomenal One decides he wants to come back, he believes that choice is still his.

During an appearance on Cody Rhodes’ “What Do You Wanna Talk About?”, Styles talked about finally getting to lay his gloves down in Atlanta and said he was happy with how his career ended.

“I was hoping that I would get to lay him down in Atlanta. Yeah. That’s what I wanted to do. The Dirty South. But there’s all kinds of things running through my mind, but I am certainly glad I got the opportunity to lay him down in Atlanta. That was a great moment for me and my family to be able to do that, and I felt good about it. I felt at peace with it, and so I’m glad it happened there.”

Cody then asked the big question — whether AJ still reserves the right to come out of retirement if he wants to. Styles made his position simple.

“Yep. I mean, it’s retirement. I think Michael Jordan said it once. It means if I want to come back, I come back.”

Rhodes followed up by asking whether Styles could really say his career was completely “over, over.” AJ couldn’t, saying, “I don’t think I can. No. I just…”

Styles is not announcing a comeback, and there is no match currently revealed. He’s simply making it clear that retirement does not mean he has permanently closed the door on wrestling again. AJ Styles may be done right now, but he just made sure nobody mistakes that for forever. If The Phenomenal One wants another match, he says he can come back.
