The Brawling Birds and Divine Dominion left everything in the ring at AEW All Out, and Tony Schiavone is still trying to wrap his head around just how brutal the match was.
Speaking on What Happened When, Schiavone looked back at the Chicago Street Fight between Alex Windsor and Jamie Hayter and Lena Kross and Megan Bayne, admitting he’d never seen that level of violence in a women’s tag team match before: “No, I don’t.”
Schiavone explained that, because of his role in AEW talent relations, he knows all four women well. He added that he’s known Jamie Hayter longer than the others, so one of the first things he did after the match was check on her backstage.
“And I was thinking that because I know all the girls very well, obviously being in talent relations, and you develop a relationship with all of them on a business level, and especially with Jamie Hayter because I’ve known Jamie longer than the rest.”
Fortunately, Hayter told Schiavone she was doing okay despite everything the four women put each other through, but she did note that she was banged up.
“And I talked to Jamie afterwards, and Jamie said, ‘Yeah, I’m okay. I kind of got a little banged up, but I’m going to be okay.’”
That answer didn’t stop Schiavone from wondering why they were willing to endure so much punishment in the first place.
“And I told her, I said, ‘What’s wrong with you?’ I said, ‘I get it, you’re Brawling Birds, but for crying out loud, that was crazy.’”
Looking back on it, Schiavone said the match lived up to its Street Fight billing from start to finish. As violent as it was, though, Schiavone believes it all came together in the end.
“And it was. I mean, they just kicked each other’s ass. But, you know, it ended up being a very entertaining match.”
The Brawling Birds ultimately retained the AEW Women’s World Tag Team Championship, but Schiavone’s comments show just how much respect the match earned backstage. It may have left everyone sore, but it also left a lasting impression on one of AEW’s longest-tenured voices.
